It is very important that you can show that you are a good fit for a job. The person who gets a job may not be the most skilled, but may have been good at promoting himself or herself. Here are some tips to help you market yourself.

Create your "30 Second Commercial."
You have 30 seconds to talk about yourself to a potential employer. You want this person to know your job target and why you’re a good fit. Practice your speech with people who can give you feedback. Do they understand what kind of job you’re looking for? Do they understand why you would be good at it?

Example of a 30 second commercial:

  • “I am a customer service specialist with over 15 years of experience in banking and administration. My ability to understand customer concerns and respond quickly has supported the bank’s customer retention program. I am also very accurate and well organized and have closed my register without error on a daily basis. Currently I am looking for an opportunity to utilize my people skills and resolve customer complaints quickly and efficiently.”
